PEARL RIVER, N.Y. – Marjorie Shirley Hardy, a lifelong resident of Pearl River, died Monday, June 13. She was 93.
Born Nov.10, 1922, she was the daughter of Joseph Hardy and Hannah O’Connor.
She was a strong and independent woman who was happy and content doing crossword puzzles, reading and knitting gifts for her family. Always meticulously kept, she moved cheerfully and unassumingly throughout her native Pearl River, talking with everyone she could at St. Margaret's Church, at the banks where she worked and at the stores she visited.
There is hardly a person who crossed her path who didn't get a playful quip to brighten their day. She will be missed by all, certainly by her family, those who knew her well and by the many who knew her only as the gracious and cheerful lady who had a smile and a simple hello.
She is survived by her nephews James G. Hardy and his wife Lorraine, Kevin J. Hardy and wife Elizabeth; nieces Meg Ann Baisley and her husband Robert and Patricia L. Anderson and her husband Robert; great-nieces and great-nephews Maryann and her husband Dominic, Kathleen, Erin, Anna, Joseph, Melanie and her husband David, Victoria and Madeline; and great-great-niece Kaitlyn.
She was predeceased by her brother Joseph B. Hardy; and sister-in-law Ann Geddes Hardy.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Nanuet.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Joe Raso Hospice Residence.
